Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Training & Certification

Tampa Bay Training is proud to be recognized by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) as Provider #213, authorized to deliver certified training in Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT).

Who Needs This Training?

This training is required for professionals involved in the planning, design, implementation, operation, enforcement, and inspection of work zone traffic control on streets and highways within the State Highway System right-of-way. Please note: Law Enforcement Officers are exempt from this requirement.

FDOT Training Categories

FDOT outlines three distinct categories of training. Determining the correct category depends on your role and responsibilities:

🔷 Advanced & Advanced Refresher Training

Required for personnel who make decisions about TTC implementation, including:

  • Professional Engineers responsible for Transportation Management Plans (TMPs) and TTC design
  • Worksite Traffic Supervisors (per FDOT Standard Specifications, Section 102)
  • Supervisors overseeing installation, removal, and maintenance of TTC devices (including barriers, end treatments, and crash cushions)
  • Inspectors evaluating the placement and function of TTC devices

🔷 Intermediate & Intermediate Refresher Training

Required for personnel involved in TTC activities, such as:

  • Supervisors of TTC device installation and maintenance (excluding barriers and crash cushions)
  • Inspectors of TTC device placement and operation (excluding barriers and crash cushions)

🔷 Flagger Training

Required for all personnel performing flagging duties. This training may be conducted by:

  • An FDOT-approved Provider (like Tampa Bay Training)
  • Personnel holding valid Advanced or Intermediate certification

Certification & Renewal

  • No prerequisites or prior experience are required for any training category.
  • Higher-level training may substitute for lower categories (e.g., Advanced training satisfies Flagger and Intermediate requirements).
  • Refresher courses are required every four years to maintain certification.
  • Professional Development Hours (PDHs) are available upon request. PDH certificates are issued separately from MOT certificates and require approval from the appropriate licensing board.
