Civil plan sets organize large amounts of project information across sheets, notes, profiles, details, specifications and revisions. Employees must know where to look, how documents relate and when a question or conflict needs to be raised.
This practical course helps participants navigate and interpret civil construction documents used for public infrastructure, land development, streets, utilities, drainage and related work.

No formal blueprint-reading prerequisite is required. Basic arithmetic is helpful.

Client-supplied plans are preferred when the organization wants exercises connected to its work. The client must have permission to share the documents and should remove confidential, sensitive or security-related information.
Tampa Bay Training can provide sample plans when client plans are unavailable or unsuitable. The client and instructor confirm plan format, printing and display requirements before class.

The four-hour course introduces plan organization, symbols, scales, profiles, utilities, grading and details through one primary plan-reading exercise.
The eight-hour course provides more extensive plan navigation, construction-math application, multidisciplinary coordination problems, group assignments and scenario-based field communication.
Participants must attend, actively participate, complete the practical plan-reading activity and earn at least 70% on a 20- to 25-question multiple-choice knowledge check.
Successful participants receive a Tampa Bay Training certificate showing four or eight instructional hours. The certificate has no expiration date.
Blueprint reading requires participants to interpret detailed visual documents. Contact Cindy before registration to discuss accessible digital files, enlarged materials, seating, display needs or other accommodations. Tampa Bay Training will work with the client and participant while preserving the course's essential plan-interpretation objectives.
This course develops plan-reading knowledge. It does not provide engineering, architecture, surveying or other licensed design services and does not authorize a participant to change approved plans.
Participants must follow project documents, employer procedures and their assigned authority and refer design conflicts or professional judgments to the appropriate authorized or licensed professional.
Yes. Client plans are preferred when they are suitable, may be shared and are provided in the agreed format before class.
Yes. Relevant scale, dimension, elevation, slope and basic quantity concepts are incorporated into plan-reading exercises. Construction math is not marketed as a separate course in this category.
No. Participants receive a Tampa Bay Training course-completion certificate, not a professional license or regulated credential.
Yes. The plan examples can emphasize utilities, drainage, streets, sidewalks or other civil infrastructure when confirmed during scheduling.
Selected public onsite classes may be advertised through Eventbrite. Private onsite training is available with a seven-participant billing minimum and maximum enrollment of 20.
An advertised open-enrollment class will be held even if only one participant registers.
