Employee Awareness, Preparedness, Response and Recovery

Organizations cannot predict every act of violence, but they can help employees understand warning considerations, emergency procedures, response options and the importance of planning before an incident occurs.

This four-hour employee-awareness course addresses active shooter and active threat preparedness, response and recovery considerations. It is not tactical law-enforcement, defensive-weapons or firearms training.

Who Should Attend?

No previous emergency-management or security experience is required.

The course provides general awareness. Participants must follow their employer's procedures and the directions of law enforcement and emergency officials.

Course Format and Completion

The course combines instructor presentation, discussion and workplace examples. Successful completion requires:

• Full attendance
• Required participation
• Successful completion of a multiple-choice written examination

Successful participants receive a J. J. Keller certificate. The certificate does not expire. An employer or organizational policy may establish its own refresher requirement.

Optional Participant Handbook

An optional J. J. Keller participant handbook is available for $10 per person. Handbook quantities must be confirmed before the class so they can be ordered.

Private and Public Classes

Private onsite classes have a seven-participant billing minimum and a maximum of 20. Public onsite classes may be scheduled for individuals and smaller groups.

Facility Requirements

The host provides:

• A classroom with tables and chairs
• A display or projector when available
• A setting appropriate for focused and potentially sensitive discussion
• Any organization-specific emergency procedures the client wants addressed

TBT confirms equipment and accessibility needs before class.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this tactical response or firearms training?

No. This is employee-awareness and preparedness training. It is not tactical law-enforcement, defensive-weapons or firearms training.

Does the certificate expire?

The J. J. Keller certificate does not expire. An employer or organization may establish its own refresher schedule.

Is there a written test?

Yes. Participants must pass a multiple-choice written examination and meet attendance and participation requirements.

Is the handbook required?

No. The handbook is optional and costs $10 per participant.

Can the course be delivered live online?

No. TBT currently conducts the course onsite.

Can TBT help us develop a drill or plan?

Yes. Planning, drills, leadership sessions and recovery support are separately scoped services.
