What This Course Provides

The live online course provides formal instruction that may address:

• Forklift types and basic operating characteristics
• Differences between powered industrial trucks and automobiles
• Controls and instrumentation
• Stability, center of gravity and load capacity
• Pre-use inspections
• Pedestrian and workplace hazards
• Safe travel, parking, refueling and charging
• Conditions that require refresher training
• The roles of the employee, evaluator and employer

Successful completion requires full attendance, participation and a passing score on the 25-question multiple-choice examination.

What This Course Does Not Provide

The online course does not include:

• Hands-on demonstration by a qualified trainer
• Supervised practical exercises on the employer's forklift
• A workplace performance evaluation
• Equipment-specific operating authorization
• A full forklift operator qualification

The J. J. Keller certificate specifically states that the participant completed only the classroom portion.

Employer-Required Next Steps

Before allowing the employee to operate a powered industrial truck, the employer must arrange:

• Practical instruction and demonstrations
• Supervised hands-on exercises
• A performance evaluation in the workplace
• Equipment- and site-specific training
• Documentation identifying the operator, dates and evaluator
• Employer authorization for the applicable truck and assignment

The person providing practical training and evaluation must have the knowledge, training and experience needed to train operators and evaluate competence.

Each participant needs:

• A stable internet connection
• A working camera, microphone and speakers
• A private email address for registration and certificate delivery
• A quiet location where the participant can remain visible and engaged
• Access to the online testing method provided for the class

Participants must attend the live session, meet participation requirements and complete their own examination.

Organizations may schedule a private session for up to 20 participants. The seven-participant billing minimum applies to private classes. If fewer than seven people attend, the organization is billed for seven.

Will this course certify me to operate a forklift?

No. The certificate documents the formal/classroom portion only. The employer must provide practical training, complete a workplace performance evaluation and authorize the employee before operation.

Is the course self-paced?

No. It is a scheduled live online class led by an instructor.

Does the course include a handbook?

No. A handbook is not offered with this course.

Can an employer schedule a private online class?

Yes. Private live online sessions are available for up to 20 participants and have a seven-participant billing minimum.
