Workplace Safety Basics

Practical learning

What participants will be able to do

  • Recognize common hazards in work practices, the work environment, tools, and equipment.
  • Choose an appropriate control or stop-and-report action within their role.
  • Locate their employer’s hazard-communication and emergency information.
  • Report a near miss or unsafe condition clearly and without assigning blame.

Inside the class

Four connected safety topics

Safe work practices

Readiness, material handling, walking surfaces, and personal protective equipment.

Work environment

Hazard communication, signs, electrical and fire hazards, and restricted spaces.

Tools and equipment

Pre-use checks, guards, ladders, pedestrian safety, and authorization boundaries.

Emergency response

The employer’s action plan, designated responders, spills, and reporting.

Participants work through realistic scenarios and complete a 20-question TBT knowledge check. A score of at least 14 correct answers (70%) is required; the instructor reviews missed concepts and coordinates remediation when needed.

Completion

Certificate and course boundaries

TBT obtains J. J. Keller certificate stock before each class. Eligible learners receive a J. J. Keller certificate after participating and meeting the course completion standard. Cindy coordinates the completion record.

This is general workplace-safety awareness. It is separate from OSHA Outreach and does not issue an OSHA Department of Labor card. It does not replace employer-specific training or authorize equipment operation, confined-space entry, electrical work, rescue, or other specialized tasks.

Planning a class

What to prepare

Tell Cindy about the audience, work setting, likely hazards, location, and the employer procedures you want incorporated. Peter brings the original provider USB for instruction. Travel, when applicable, is quoted separately.

No formal prerequisite is required. For accessibility or accommodation needs, contact Customer Service before class when possible. TBT can discuss accessible materials and equivalent ways to participate without asking learners to disclose a diagnosis to the group.
