Budgeting and Financial Management for New Supervisors


Understand the Financial Responsibilities Behind Operational Decisions

Supervisors affect costs through staffing, overtime, materials, equipment, contracts, projects and everyday operating decisions. They do not need to become accountants, but they do need to understand the budget, monitor resources and communicate financial needs responsibly.

This introductory course connects budget and financial-management concepts to practical supervisory work.

Four-hour version: $125 per participant
Eight-hour version: $200 per participant
Delivery: Onsite or live online
Private-class minimum: Seven-participant billing minimum
Maximum class size: 20 participants
Knowledge check: 20–25 multiple-choice questions; 70% required
Completion document: Tampa Bay Training certificate with no expiration

Client-specific charts of accounts, budget calendars and policies may be discussed when provided in advance.


Four-Hour and Eight-Hour Formats

The four-hour version introduces the core concepts and uses a basic budget or variance exercise.

The eight-hour version adds multiple scenarios, resource planning, cost comparison, variance analysis and creation of a supervisory budget action plan.


Assessment and Certificate

Participants must attend, participate, complete the financial activity and earn at least 70% on the knowledge check.

Successful participants receive a Tampa Bay Training certificate showing four or eight instructional hours.


Important Boundary

This course is introductory management education. It does not provide accounting, audit, investment, tax or legal advice and does not replace the client's finance, procurement, grants or legal professionals.


Live Online Participation

Live online participants must use a desktop or laptop computer with a stable internet connection and working camera, microphone and speakers. Mobile phones are not accepted as the primary device. Each participant must remain visible and engaged and complete their own activities and knowledge check.

Do participants need an accounting background?

No. The course is designed for supervisors and operational personnel who need practical financial awareness.

Can the course use our budget forms?

Yes. Provide suitable forms, calendars or reports before class.

Is this a municipal budgeting certification?

No. Participants receive a Tampa Bay Training certificate documenting completion of an introductory professional-development course.
