Online OSHA 10-Hour and 30-Hour Training: Choosing the Right Course

Tampa Bay Training now provides access to self-paced OSHA 10-Hour and OSHA 30-Hour Outreach courses delivered online through HSI. Courses are available for Construction and General Industry in English and Spanish.

This flexible option may be helpful for individuals, employers, public works departments, utilities, contractors, and other organizations that need hazard-awareness training without waiting for a scheduled instructor-led class.

What Is the OSHA Outreach Training Program?

The OSHA Outreach Training Program provides workers with information about common workplace safety and health hazards, employee rights, employer responsibilities, and methods for recognizing, avoiding, controlling, and preventing hazards.

The program offers two primary course lengths:

• OSHA 10-Hour: Intended primarily for entry-level workers and others who need foundational hazard-awareness training.
• OSHA 30-Hour: Provides greater depth and is generally more appropriate for supervisors or workers with safety responsibilities.

Participants who satisfy the applicable provider requirements receive an OSHA student course completion card.

It is important to understand what this program does—and does not—provide. According to OSHA’s Outreach Training Program guidance:

• Outreach courses are voluntary hazard-awareness programs.
• OSHA 10-Hour and 30-Hour courses are not professional certifications or licenses.
• The courses do not satisfy an employer’s obligation to provide training required by a particular OSHA standard.
• An employer, contract, jurisdiction, union, or worksite may separately require an OSHA course-completion card.

Employers remain responsible for assessing workplace hazards and providing the equipment-specific, task-specific, site-specific, and standard-required training applicable to their employees.

Construction or General Industry?

Selecting the correct course matters. The employee’s job title alone may not determine which OSHA course is appropriate.

Construction

The Construction track addresses hazards commonly associated with construction, alteration, repair, and related activities. Topics may include fall hazards, electrical hazards, struck-by hazards, caught-in or between hazards, personal protective equipment, health hazards, and other construction-related subjects.

General Industry

The General Industry track applies to many workplaces and operations outside the construction classification. These may include maintenance facilities, warehouses, treatment facilities, shops, manufacturing operations, and certain public works or utility activities.

Some public works and utility employees perform different types of work at different times. Before enrolling, confirm the required industry track and course length with the employer, project owner, contracting organization, worksite, or other authority establishing the requirement.

Self-Paced Training Through HSI

HSI, identified by OSHA as Summit Training Source, appears on OSHA’s current list of authorized online Outreach Training Program providers for:

• OSHA 10-Hour Construction
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction
• OSHA 10-Hour General Industry
• OSHA 30-Hour General Industry

Through Tampa Bay Training, these self-paced courses are available in English and Spanish. Participants complete the required online content independently without attending a scheduled live class.

Current self-paced pricing is:

• OSHA 10-Hour: $70 per participant
• OSHA 30-Hour: $150 per participant

Pricing applies to the self-paced HSI courses described here and may change. Confirm the current course, language, price, and applicable requirements before enrollment.

There is no private-class enrollment minimum for the self-paced option.

When Self-Paced Training May Be Appropriate

Self-paced training may be a practical choice when:

• An employee needs to begin without waiting for a scheduled class.
• Work schedules make live attendance difficult.
• Employees are located in different areas.
• Participants prefer independent online learning.
• An organization needs to enroll employees at different times.
• Live instructor interaction is not required.

Self-paced training may not be the best format when employees need real-time discussion, organization-specific examples, practical exercises, hands-on training, or a performance evaluation.

Instructor-Led OSHA Construction Training

Tampa Bay Training also offers instructor-led OSHA 10-Hour and OSHA 30-Hour Construction Outreach courses. These scheduled classes may be conducted onsite or through approved live-online instruction.

Instructor-led training allows participants to ask questions, discuss workplace situations, and learn with other employees. Private instructor-led classes have a seven-participant billing minimum and are separately priced from the HSI self-paced courses.

OSHA Outreach training can strengthen hazard awareness, but it is only one part of an effective safety and health program.
