LEARNING OUTCOMES

Recognize, check, and escalate

  • Recognize basic hazardous-materials cues in shipping and workplace information.
  • Find employer instructions before handling or transporting materials.
  • Describe protective, incident-reporting, and security steps within the assigned role.
  • Know when to stop and notify a supervisor or designated responder.

INSIDE THE CLASS

Three core modules; two useful lengths

General Awareness

Hazard communication, shipping information, and identification cues.

Safety

Exposure prevention, emergency information, and response-role limits.

Security Awareness

Unusual circumstances, access, and employer reporting procedures.

Applied practice

Guided examples in four hours; more employer-specific scenarios and review in eight.

IMPORTANT DISTINCTION

Awareness is not the whole job-function requirement

This offering covers the three core awareness modules. It does not by itself complete every training element a DOT hazmat employee may need for assigned functions. The employer determines applicable function-specific instruction, testing, and records.

It is not OSHA Outreach training and does not issue an OSHA Department of Labor card.

PLANNING & COMPLETION

Build the right class for your team

Tell Cindy about employees’ duties, location, class size, and employer procedures. Travel, when applicable, is quoted separately. The class does not involve live hazardous-materials handling or spill response.

Learners complete a TBT-authored 30-question assessment covering General Awareness, Safety, and Security Awareness. A score of at least 7 of 10 in each area is required; missed areas receive instructor-led remediation and a documented retake. TBT issues the full-course completion certificate after passing and complete attendance records. J. J. Keller module certificates may be issued as applicable. Cindy coordinates the records.

For accessibility or accommodation needs, contact Customer Service in advance when possible. Equivalent ways to participate and demonstrate learning can be arranged without disclosing a diagnosis to the group.
