Important OSHA Outreach Program Information

OSHA Outreach Training Is Not an OSHA Certification

The OSHA Outreach Training Program provides voluntary education about common workplace safety and health hazards, workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and hazard prevention.

Outreach training does not replace training required by specific OSHA standards, and an OSHA course-completion card should not be described as an OSHA certification or license.

Voluntary Outreach Program Broad safety and hazard-awareness education
Course-Completion Card Eligible participants receive a card after completing applicable requirements
Not a Certification OSHA does not classify Outreach courses as certifications
Employer Responsibility Remains Employers must identify standard-specific training required for the work

OSHA Course-Completion Cards

Understand Who Issues and Maintains the Record

Instructor-Led Training

After participants complete applicable program requirements, eligible students receive an OSHA course-completion card.

Card delivery often takes approximately two weeks, but participants should allow up to four weeks.

Self-Paced Training

For HSI self-paced courses, the online provider is responsible for course records, card issuance and replacement-card questions.

Replacement Cards

OSHA does not maintain individual Outreach class records. Replacement questions should be directed to the original trainer or online provider.

OSHA states that a replacement card cannot be issued when the training occurred more than five years ago.

OSHA course-completion cards are not certifications. Employers, project owners, states, municipalities or contracts may nevertheless require a 10-Hour or 30-Hour card for particular work.
