OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour?

OSHA 10-Hour

The OSHA 10-Hour course is intended primarily to provide workers with awareness of common job-related safety and health hazards. It is generally the appropriate starting point for entry-level workers unless an employer, contract, jurisdiction, or worksite requires something different.

OSHA 30-Hour

The OSHA 30-Hour course provides broader and more detailed hazard-awareness training. It is generally more appropriate for supervisors or workers who have some safety responsibility.

Construction or General Industry?

Choose the program that matches the environment in which you work:

- Construction addresses hazards commonly encountered during construction activities.
- General Industry applies to workplaces such as public works facilities, utilities, warehouses, maintenance operations, manufacturing, and other non-construction environments.

If you are uncertain, confirm the requirement with your employer, contracting organization, worksite, or other authority before enrolling. Cindy can help you compare the available options, but the employer or requiring organization should make the final determination.

Important OSHA Outreach Information

The OSHA Outreach Training Program provides basic and more advanced information about common workplace safety and health hazards. OSHA describes the 10-hour course as primarily intended for workers and the 30-hour course as more appropriate for supervisors or workers with some safety responsibility.

OSHA Outreach courses are voluntary hazard-awareness programs. They are not professional certifications, and they do not replace training required by a specific OSHA standard. An employer, contract, state, local government, union, or worksite may separately require an OSHA course-completion card.

HSI, also identified by OSHA as Summit Training Source, is listed by OSHA as an authorized online Outreach Training Program provider for the Construction and General Industry 10-hour and 30-hour courses.
