Course fit
Is Intermediate TTC the right level?
The correct course is based on assigned duties—not simply a job title. Intermediate commonly applies when the work involves the responsibilities below without advanced TTC systems.
Installation or removal supervision
Supervise the installation or removal of TTC devices, excluding temporary barriers, end treatments, and crash cushions.
Field-maintenance supervision
Supervise field maintenance of applicable TTC devices and work-zone operations.
Device inspection
Inspect the placement or operational function of applicable TTC devices.
Applicable field roles
Examples may include maintenance crews, permit or utility job-site supervisors, and corrections personnel supervising inmate labor crews.
Advanced responsibilities require a different course. If duties include temporary barriers, end treatments, crash cushions, TTC plan design, or Worksite Traffic Supervisor responsibilities, review FDOT Advanced TTC or ask Cindy before registering.

This course is not self-paced. Intermediate TTC requires approved live instruction, required exercises, attendance, and a proctored examination.
What participants learn
Prepare for practical Intermediate TTC responsibilities.
Required source documents, instructor explanation, examples, and two workshop exercises connect program standards to field decisions.

- Part 6 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
- Applicable FDOT Standard Plans, including the 102 series
- Applicable FDOT Standard Specifications and current requirements
Work-zone setup and devices
- Work-zone components, tapers, transitions, and channelization
- Device selection, placement, installation, removal, and maintenance
- Recognition of hazards and appropriate corrective action
Inspection and supervision
- Inspection of device placement and operational function
- Supervision of flaggers and applicable field activity
- Boundary between Intermediate and Advanced responsibilities
Road-user and worker protection
- Protection of workers, motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists
- Accessible and practical passage through or around work zones
- Communication, coordination, and field responsibility
Successful completion
Attendance, exercises, and examination all matter.
- Attend the complete 16-hour instructional period
- Actively participate in two required workshop exercises
- Complete the 50-question proctored written examination
- Earn a score of 70% or higher
- Meet applicable identification, participation, and testing requirements
Retesting rule: A participant who does not pass the course examination must retake the same course before testing again.
Before class
Prepare the participant for uninterrupted, compliant attendance.
Registration and identification
Register each participant with accurate personal information and follow the identification and student-record instructions provided before class.
Live-online technology
Use a dependable internet connection, desktop or laptop, working camera, microphone, speakers, and a suitable location for uninterrupted attendance and testing.
Course materials and participation
Be ready to use the required materials, complete both workshop exercises, remain engaged, and follow attendance and examination directions.
Protect the qualification
Plan the refresher before the four-year expiration date.
A current Intermediate qualification holder may take the eight-hour Intermediate Refresher. If the qualification expires first, the full 16-hour course must be completed again.

Peter is Tampa Bay Training’s founder and lead instructor and is recognized as FDOT Temporary Traffic Control Provider #213. He connects the required source documents and course exercises to the supervision, inspection, setup, maintenance, and field decisions participants encounter at work.
The goal is more than passing an examination: participants should understand how the requirements apply to their responsibilities.

Intermediate TTC questions
Does the full Intermediate course have a prerequisite?
No prior TTC qualification is required. The participant should still select the level that matches assigned duties and applicable project requirements.
Can I take this course live online or onsite?
Yes. Intermediate TTC may be offered as private onsite, private live online, open-enrollment onsite, or open-enrollment live online training.
Can Intermediate TTC substitute for Flagger training?
FDOT's course-category structure allows Intermediate or Advanced training to substitute for the Flagger category, and Advanced may substitute for Intermediate. Employers and project owners should still confirm contract- and job-specific requirements.
Are PDH or CEU documents available?
Professional-development documentation may be available for eligible participants, but it is separate from the FDOT qualification. Ask Customer Service and confirm acceptance with the applicable board or employer.
